Many of the businesses on our directory have, over the years, either heard of BNI or been part of it. One of the common questions that seems to come up around the subject of BNI is:
Is BNI a Cult?
So, we thought we’d look at it and give you some insight and you can make your mind up from there.
So, firstly, what exactly is a cult? Cults are much broader than the old concept of a group of people handing over all their money and going and following relgious-type leader with a Messianic complex. No, in fact according to Wikipedia:
‘In modern English, a cult is a social group that is defined by its unusual religious, spiritual, or philosophical beliefs, or by its common interest in a particular personality, object, or goal.‘
Behaviours of cult members
Specific factors in cult behaviour are said to include manipulative and authoritarian mind control over members, communal and totalistic organization, aggressive proselytizing, systematic programs of indoctrination, and perpetuation in middle-class communities.
